Description
Cast bronze hook-and-eye set with raised foliate ornament. Five sets of these clasps were found in the princely grave mound Gul'bishce, close to the ancient town of Chernigov (Ukrainian Chernihiv). The burial was a richly furnished cremation with weapons, armour and horse gear, dated to the 10th century. Diamond-shaped clasps are also found in Magyar cemetaries and were probably used to fasten a kaftan.
Four small loops on the rear for sewing to clothing. A reinforced version can be provided for fastening mail - please inquire for details.
